Ultimate solutions to clean your silver jewelry at home

925 sterling silver is a material that we love and it deserves to be treated with all the possible affection. Luckily, there are many tips you can follow to preserve your silver jewelry over time.

Polished silver jewelry has a unique shine, although it is normal that over time it can darken due to the nature of the material. The process of changing the color of silver is a chemical reaction of the material itself, so when a jewel loses its original shine it is because a thin layer of corrosion is formed, creating a darker color over the metal.

The first step to avoid this process is to store your jewelry out of environments that are too humid or dry, a simple “tip” that will help you keep them in their original luster without the need to continually clean them up. When the passage of time captures our silver pieces we will need to clean them with the appropriate products and techniques. That does not mean that we have to spend a lot of money or time, there are simple methods to make them shine like new. Here are some of them:

  • Polishing cloth:
  • If the jewel does not show too much aging, we advise you to simply clean it regularly with a special silver cloth. The good news? Any product purchased at PDPAOLA has one of them that you can use in any of your jewelry.

  • Toothpaste:
  • Another often used method. It is very important to use a non gel toothpaste and to avoid abrasive or whitening ones, as these products are not appropriate for silver jewelry. Put a small amount on a clean cloth and rub the piece gently in a circular motion to polish and clean the tarnish. Leave the toothpaste on the silver jewel for five minutes. After that time, rinse with water and make sure to dry it well afterwards.

  • Baking soda paste:
  • Mix two parts of baking soda with one part of water. Gently rub the dough on the silver jewel. Finally, rinse and dry the piece with a soft cloth or microfiber towel. Thanks to the chemical reaction of the two products, the tarnish will be removed quickly.
