BEYOND THE OBVIOUS

At PDPAOLA, the passion for craft lies at the heart of everything we do. Craft is the bridge between vision and reality, allowing creativity to find its form. That’s why every piece of jewelry is the result of an intricate journey; a hidden world of careful thought, dedication, and artistry. It’s a dialogue between the maker and the piece—an intuitive process where artisans forge a deep connection with the materials they shape.

For Milan Design Week 2026, we interpret the theme of the exhibition-event INTERNI MATERIAE through "Crafted to Transcend." Our founder and creative director, Paola Sasplugas in dialogue with product designer Ángela Román create a work that translates the language of jewelry into experiential architecture. This immersive installation, on view in the Cortile d'Onore of the Università degli Studi di Milano from April 20th to the 30th, offers an organic reflection on matter, the human gesture, and transformation.

AN INSTALLATION INSPIRED BY THE GLACIER EARRINGS

The installation "Crafted to Transcend" originates from the fluid geometry of the Glacier earrings, whose sculptural language informs the project's organic architecture. At its center lies the human gesture: the act of chiseling becomes a symbolic and physical expression of craft, positioning the visitor as an active agent of change. This dialogue culminates in a structure characterized by smooth, semi-polished, and intentionally raw surfaces, where form remains in continuous evolution.

COLLECTIVE WORK IN MOTION

With “Crafted to Transcend,” PDPAOLA explores matter as a living field of transformation, freeing jewelry from its traditional perception. The project frames design as an evolving process rather than a fixed object; selected rough areas are conceived for public intervention where visitors activate the work by carving the material.

As the 3D plaster surface gradually settles, the installation bears witness to the passage of time and collective gestures. Here, transcendence is the capacity of jewelry to exceed its function and become a participatory, emotional experience.
