Interior design trends for 2022

The saying “your home is your castle” might be more true than ever. The fact that we spent a huge amount of time at home in 2020 and 2021 has made us appreciate the space we inhabit in different ways, and also stressed out the importance of a nice decor to create the right vibe and reflect your personal style. With this in mind, we decided to explore some of the trends that will be dictating how our houses look like in 2022.

The curated jungle

It’s no secret Millennials love plants: the more, the better. But plants are more than a trend as the benefits of indoor plants are many, from improving the air quality, to boosting our mood or lowering stress and anxiety. Also, they have the ability to instantly make any space feel cozy and calm, so they are a great design element.

Besides, in our new work-from-home reality, we had to find ways to bring the outdoors into our homes, which resulted in an increased interest in plants and millennials’ flats looking more and more like a curated jungle. In 2021 we become familiar with “propagation” and “repotting” and the number of Instagram accounts dedicated to plant care also raised, so it’s no wonder our fascination with indoor plants will keep growing in 2022.

We like it curvy

Curved design elements are here to stay (at least for a while). According to the 2022 Pinterest Trend Report, Boomers, Gen X and Millennials are driving searches behind this home trend. Curved sofas, curved kitchen islands, curved kitchen cabinets… We seem to really be into adding some roundness into our homes.

Gone are the only-straight-lines days, but it’s up to you to decide how far you’ll take this trend. If a curved kitchen countertop and/or cabinets is a bit much for you, try adding a rounded rug or a coffee table (or maybe a mirror), which are less permanent design choices that will still add that edginess to your home.

Investment Pieces

The appreciation for craft, design and durability is on the rise, which means younger generations are more willing to buy pieces of furniture made to last, or vintage pieces with a more unique feel. The same applies to art or decorative objects such as ceramics. Millennials seem to understand better the value and complexity of craftsmanship and, as such, they are open to investing in one-of-a-kind pieces.

Relaxation comes first

Another trend resulting from the pandemic is the need for a relaxing atmosphere and spaces at home. We seek to disconnect at home, so we are investing more in essential oil diffusers, aromatherapy candles, or healing crystals. Also spaces to meditate, restful corners to read or relax and home gyms are gaining more popularity and will be a big trend throughout 2022.
